I grew up in this beautiful lakeside town, and has it ever grown and changed since I was a child here! But one thing hasn’t changed, and that’s my love for my community and its residents. Hello, friends! I’m Calise Barraque-Belote, owner of Mint Julep décor, furniture, and design boutique in Rockwall, Texas. Some employees (hourly and salaried) are often threatened with strikes and other disciplinary actions but these same "behaviors" are overlooked for other employees. Everyone is segregated off into their separate department (despite working in close quarters with others) and management often plays favorites with certain departments which creates quite a bit of animosity. There is no inter-department camaraderie among the workers. They promises raises (but believe me, this will never happen). However, they will cut hours for no reason, leaving you high and dry and unable to pick up shifts. As for hourly workers, the starting wage is pretty good. Depending on what your role is the same member of management is liable to give you directives that do not turn out as expected and blame you for the outcomes. You are expected to not only do your job but exceed (sometimes unreasonable) expectations and failure to do so results in unfair treatment by management (the BOM). Whether you are an hourly employee or a salaried employee, the general consensus is about the same - you will be extremely unappreciated. However, sadly none of these things are true. They make a lot of lofty promises - ie in your interview they will promise you a certain number of hours, job mobility/being able to move up in the company, etc. I worked at the Mint Julep for quite some time. Run while you still have the chance and don’t get sucked into this ticking time bomb. Want better prices for the SAME items, go to Amazon. The clothes are cheap and not worth the money The Mint is marketing them for. Once the manager has her mind made up good luck trying to speak with her and have your opinion/ideas heard. When asking for a promotion, or a raise they claim they have no record of your job performance even though you have worked 40+ hours a week. The Mint is extremely cliquey and gossip is found everywhere. If you want an open team that is willing to listen to your ideas, you won’t find it here. If you want a yearly bonus, or a pay raise you won’t see it here. Within 6 months their entire customer service department has been fired, or has quit due to unfair treatment. The Mint only cares about the success of the company instead of the happiness of their employees. The company is corrupt from the inside out and is very poorly managed. If you value respect, honesty, and your sanity DO NOT WORK HERE. If I could give The Mint negative stars I would.
